Dragonball Live Action: Casting Call!

That’s right! According to a poster we just got from our favorite Spanish blog, there has been a casting call issued for the Dragonball Live Action movie. My understanding of Spanish is somewhat limited but from what I can ascertain, the target is anyone living near the filming area in Mexico whom can make it to the Best Western hotel addressed below at the dates listed below. According to the blog, they require a total 1,500 extra’s.

Emmy Rossum on Dragonball Movie

Emmy Rossum, who plays Bulma in the upcoming Dragonball Movie, has made a post on her MySpace blog where she talks a little about the set, her fellow actors, and some other random stuff (like rabbits).

I’m happy to report I’m finding little bits of time on set in between takes to write you. Today we woke up in Torreon, a pretty big city in Mexico, at about 4:30am. We drove an hour to set, just outside Dunas de Bilbao. Our location is, what I can only describe as, a sand dune desert. I’ve been riding the motorcycle in 4-foot sand drifts since sunrise to get the shot just right. The wonderful, kind and talented Chow Yun Fat is hanging on for dear life in back. We’ve been doing about 40mph, and over bumpy sand dunes that is enough to make anyone a little queasey…

Picture Plethora! More Dragonball Movie Set Shots

Last week, we posted on a few set pictures of the Dragonball movie. As filming has been announced as underway, these images drew the ire of many a person including ourselves. Today, we’ve learned that the blog responsible for providing the images the last time has since been updated with a plethora of them. They aren’t exactly of the highest quality but they might bring some chance of hope with them if you look close enough. Here’s a few to start you off with. Dozens after the jump.

Pictures: Dragonball Movie Early Shots; Say Hi To Goku

Thanks to Kotaku (via HolyCinema) we’ve just gained more reason to be skeptical about the August 15th release of the Live Action version of Dragon Ball. Perhaps that sentence is a bit ambiguous… We aren’t skeptical about the release date but the movie itself. Reason being? Take a look at Justin Chatwin as Goku:

Google Maps: Akiba Otaku Shops Overlay

Since its inception people have been building innovative mashup applications using the Google Maps API. The otaku niche has so far been unexploited, but thanks to a new mashup by Akihabara Channel this is no longer the case.

The aim of the mashup, aptly named ‘Akihabara Map‘, is to show the location of all the otaku related shops in Akiba (Doujin, Figures, etc). English-language reviews of each store are available by a simple click of the corresponding placeholder pin. Additionally, stores displayed can be filitered to reflect your personal preferences.

I will hopefully be going to Japan next summer, so this map, and my copy of ‘Cruising The Anime City: An Otaku Guide To Neo Tokyo‘, will no doubt come in handy.

According to this white paper, Japan’s otaku market stands at approximately $1.651 billion USD or ¥186.88 billion JPY.

The report breaks down as follows (thanks to ANN):

On the other side of the map, ICv2 has released a report on the North American otaku market which expands on the details they provided during a conference at the New York Anime Festival earlier this month, during which time they estimated the market to stand at $400 million USD for DVD Sales and $200 million USD for manga sales.
