My Internet connection has been down for the past five days! It was tough, but somehow I survived. Anyhow, the reason for this posting is to belatedly announce the opening of the English language Good Smile Company website.

The website is a Mecca for figure fans, giving details of all of Good Smile’s new products (such as the popular ‘Figma‘ line of figures). For the rest of the otaku community it has an exclusive column written by Otaking Danny Choo, and it also demonstrates the latest iteration of his Mirai Gaia content management system - which is looking great. So go Check It Out, Yo!

Also, in other news, during my downtime I finally got around to starting work on a new otaku-oriented website of my own, and will hopefully be making an announcement about this soon.

I have always thought that augmented reality - the mixing of the real and virtual worlds - was a really interesting field, and it now looks like some companies in the otaku sphere are taking note too.

Geisha Tokyo Entertainment Inc. have just announced a new product based on the technology which they have called ‘Dennoh Figure ARis‘, or ‘Cyber Figure Alice‘ in English.

Basically how it works is that you are provided with a black and white block. You then point your webcam at said block, and when you boot up the software it will overlay an image of a 3D maid standing on top of the block. You are then free to interact with the 3D model using real world objects; in this case you can use a stick to peep at, touch, and change the clothing of the maid. It’s perverted, but also pretty cool ^^.
