Pictures: Dragonball Movie Early Shots; Say Hi To Goku

Thanks to Kotaku (via HolyCinema) we’ve just gained more reason to be skeptical about the August 15th release of the Live Action version of Dragon Ball. Perhaps that sentence is a bit ambiguous… We aren’t skeptical about the release date but the movie itself. Reason being? Take a look at Justin Chatwin as Goku:

More after the jump.

Just to be perfectly clear, yes that is Justin Chatwin, and yes that is supposed to be Goku (despite the serious lacking in the muscle, hair, and clothing department). Below are some more shots from the set of the movie including that of the set itself from the Mexico City locale.

Well you should have known that movie!Goku wouldn’t be the same as the manga/anime, especially the hair. It’s unrealistic. Anime and live action are two completely different things and there’s no way you can fully translate anime to la.

  2. Likewise, millions of people are expecting very much from FOX with this. Atleast the clothing should be correct. For an example of a Live Action done right, see Death Note.

Bumblebee!! He is also in the picture. ^_^ But regarding the movie, I am just hoping that FOX doesn’t come out in August saying either a.)the movie needs more time, or b.) Hahaha you actually believed us that we make a movie, don’t you remember what happened last time. T_T Well anyways on a side note, people were fussing a year earlier about Transformers and how can it be made, just like the same fussing with Dragon Ball now and look how good Transformers turned out…there is still hope ;)

[Redacted] If this movie don’t live up to its name and all of the hype behind the Dragon Ball series, I hope sombody will atleast kick one of the Fox executives in the throat for even authorizing the movie being made.

Otaku Times: Please try to express comments in a… clean manner.

1st…The Dragon Ball series has been on since before I was born and im 23. So I understand how hard it may be for Fox to compact a series that went on for over two decades into an 1 hr 1/2 possibly 2 hr movie. 2nd…You can’t say you can’t do Goku’s hair cause look at Jim Carreys hair in Ace Ventura Pet Detective. Its Possible! and 3rd… Make sure the action is ON POINT!!! Especially with the special and visual effects. Myself and other Dragon Ball fans would hate to see this movie become a bust! But, I trust in James Wong. Don’t let us down.

No wonder so many who had high hopes in the movie a few months ago are now throwing all kinds of crap at it. It also figures why the Japanese have started a boycott movement against this movie

I’m not convinced it’s going to be a good film but will retain some hopeless optimism as I can’t be proved right ’til I see it. As for the muscle issue, remember this is a DRAGONBALL film not DRAGONBALL Z.
